AI Chat Export ("we," "us," or "our") provides a Chrome extension and web application that lets you export conversations from AI chat platforms — including ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, and Gemini — to PDF, TXT, or Markdown. This privacy policy explains how we collect, handle, store, and share your data across both the extension and the web app.
1. Data Collection
This section describes all personal and sensitive user data that AI Chat Export collects.
Account Information
When you create an account on our web application, we collect your name, email address, and a hashed password. If you subscribe to a paid plan, your billing details are handled directly by PayPal — we do not collect or store credit card numbers or payment method details on our servers.
Conversation Data (Chrome Extension)
When you use the Chrome extension, it reads conversation content from the active tab on supported AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Gemini). This data is transmitted to our API solely to generate your export file (PDF, TXT, or Markdown). The extension does not collect any data from unsupported websites, and does not access your browsing history, bookmarks, passwords, or any other browser data.
Usage Data
We collect anonymized usage events (e.g., which export formats are popular, feature adoption) through PostHog to understand how the product is used and to improve it. This may include your IP address, browser type, and device information. We do not sell this data or use it for advertising.
Extension Permissions
The Chrome extension requests only the activeTab and storage permissions.
The activeTab permission is used to read conversation content from the currently
active tab on supported platforms only. The storage permission is used to save your
authentication token locally. The extension does not run on or collect data from any website
other than the supported AI chat platforms listed above. All network communication from the
extension is directed exclusively to our API at aichatexport.xyz.
2. Data Handling
This section describes how we process and use the data we collect.
How Conversation Data Is Processed
When you initiate an export, the Chrome extension extracts the conversation text from your active browser tab and sends it to our server via an encrypted HTTPS connection. Our server processes this data to generate the requested export file (PDF, TXT, or Markdown) and returns the file to you. Conversation data is processed in memory on our server and is not written to persistent storage unless you explicitly choose to save the export to your account history.
How Account Data Is Used
- To authenticate you and manage your account
- To manage your subscription and process payments via PayPal
- To send transactional emails (account verification, export notifications, password resets) via Resend
- To send occasional product updates via Zoho Campaigns (you can unsubscribe at any time)
How Usage Data Is Used
Anonymized usage data collected via PostHog is used solely to understand product usage patterns and improve AI Chat Export. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or sold to any third party.
3. Data Storage
This section describes where and how your data is stored, and for how long.
Where Data Is Stored
- Account data (name, email, hashed password) is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase (cloud database provider) with encryption at rest.
- Saved conversation exports (only if you explicitly save them) are stored in the same Supabase-hosted database.
- Authentication tokens are stored locally in your browser via the Chrome extension's
storageAPI. These tokens are time-limited and never sent to any third party. - Our web application and API are hosted on Render (cloud hosting provider).
Data Retention
- Conversation data used for export processing is held in server memory only during processing and is not retained after the export file is delivered to you — unless you explicitly choose to save it to your account.
- Account information is retained for as long as your account is active.
- Saved exports are retained until you delete them or request account deletion.
- Usage analytics data is retained by PostHog according to their data retention policies.
You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at support@aichatexport.xyz.
4. Data Sharing
This section describes whether and how your data is shared with third parties.
We Do Not Sell Your Data
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal data to any third party. We do not share your conversation content with any third party. We do not use your data for advertising or behavioral targeting.
Third-Party Service Providers
We share limited data with the following third-party service providers solely to operate AI Chat Export. Each provider processes data on our behalf under their respective privacy policies:
- Supabase (database hosting) — stores your account information and saved conversation data. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
- PayPal (payment processing) — processes subscription payments. We share only your email address with PayPal to facilitate payments. We do not store your credit card or payment details directly. See PayPal's Privacy Policy.
- Resend (email delivery) — delivers transactional emails such as account verification and export notifications. We share only your email address. See Resend's Privacy Policy.
- PostHog (product analytics) — receives anonymized usage data and events. May receive IP addresses. See PostHog's Privacy Policy.
- Zoho Campaigns (marketing email) — used to send product updates and announcements. We share only your email address. You can unsubscribe at any time. See Zoho's Privacy Policy.
- Render (hosting) — hosts our web application and API. See Render's Privacy Policy.
Legal Disclosure
We may disclose your data if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or the public.
5. Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:
- HTTPS/TLS encryption for all data in transit between the extension, your browser, and our servers
- Encryption at rest for database storage
- Bcrypt-hashed passwords (we never store plaintext passwords)
- Time-limited authentication tokens for the extension
- The extension communicates exclusively with our API — no data is sent to any other server
However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data and account
- Unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time
- Export your data in a portable format

7. Children's Privacy
AI Chat Export is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice on our website or sending you an email. Your continued use of AI Chat Export after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
